Dwyer Meets with Premier to Push Port Macquarie Infrastructure Priorities

Member for Port Macquarie, Robert Dwyer has met with New South Wales Premier Chris Minns to advocate for key infrastructure projects critical to the region’s growth.

Mr Dwyer said he took the opportunity to meet with the Premier before his return flight to Sydney yesterday (Tuesday) to highlight urgent short-term solutions to ease traffic congestion on the Oxley Highway, which is impacting access to Port Macquarie Base Hospital.

“The Minns Government’s $264 million commitment to the redevelopment of Port Macquarie Base Hospital is strongly welcomed by our community,” Mr Dwyer said.

“The release of detailed design concept plans has reinforced the importance of this project in delivering modern, first-class healthcare to one of the fastest-growing regions in New South Wales.”

Mr Dwyer emphasised that the success of the redevelopment will depend on improvements to surrounding infrastructure.

“However, the effectiveness of this project is intrinsically linked to the capacity and functionality of the surrounding road network, particularly the Oxley Highway between Wrights Road and Lake Road,” he said.

Mr Dwyer said the Premier acknowledged these concerns and committed to raising them with the Minister for Regional Roads and the Minister for Health.

“I have also written separately to both Ministers outlining these issues in detail,” Mr Dwyer said.

In addition, Mr Dwyer used the meeting to advocate for funding for two critical, shovel-ready projects being progressed by Port Macquarie Hastings Council.

“Council is seeking financial assistance to deliver the Thrumster Wastewater Scheme and for the expansion of the Cowarra Water Supply Scheme,” he said.

“These projects are essential to support future housing development across the Hastings region.”

Mr Dwyer said he appreciated the Premier’s willingness to consider the proposals.

“I am grateful that the Premier has agreed to investigate options to possibly assist with the issues I have raised on behalf of our community,” Mr Dwyer said.
