DWYER MEETS AGAIN WITH MINISTER AITCHISON ON OXLEY HIGHWAY UPGRADE

Member for Port Macquarie, Robert Dwyer has met with the Minister for Roads and Regional Transport, Jenny Aitchison to urgently discuss the business case for the proposed upgrade of the Oxley Highway between the Wrights Road and Lake Road roundabouts.
Mr Dwyer said ongoing traffic congestion in the area remains a major concern, particularly with the $265 million redevelopment of Port Macquarie Base Hospital set to progress.
“I am concerned that existing traffic congestion will place significant pressure on the road network during construction of the hospital redevelopment,” Mr Dwyer said.
“Minister Aitchison has assured me that Transport for NSW will work closely with Health Infrastructure to coordinate the hospital project while also implementing short-term measures to ease congestion for local residents.”
Mr Dwyer acknowledged that the business case is not generally released publicly due to commercial-in-confidence requirements, but stressed the importance of collaboration with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
“It is vitally important that Transport for NSW works closely with Council to identify practical short-term traffic solutions for the people of Port Macquarie,” he said.
Mr Dwyer said the meeting delivered a positive outcome, with confirmation that long awaited planning work has now been completed.
“It was encouraging to have the opportunity to demonstrate to the Minister the importance of all levels of government working together on this issue,” he said.
“I have successfully pushed to have the plans presented to Council, ensuring the community and local representatives remain part of the conversation moving forward.”
“I greatly appreciate the Minister’s time and willingness to work collaboratively on this important transport infrastructure project,” Mr Dwyer said.
