I NEED YOU TO HELP SPEED UP OXLEY HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENTS

Motorists using the Oxley Highway into Port Macquarie are being urged to take action and formally request improvements to one of the region’s busiest and most critical transport corridors.

With over 20,000 vehicles travelling the highway each day, traffic congestion between Wrights Road and Lake Road continues to cause frustration for local residents, commuters, families and businesses.

Member for Port Macquarie, Robert Dwyer said community feedback via Transport for NSW website will play a vital role in prioritising upgrades.

“I need your help to keep the Government on track to upgrade the Oxley Highway.

“As always, it’s the squeaky wheel that drives much needed change. I’ve checked the website, only 60 people have flagged the Oxley Highway. If we can get 10,000 petition signatures in less than two weeks, I am positive we can dramatically boost the data numbers on the website.

“Every day thousands of motorists rely on the Oxley Highway to get to work, school, medical appointments and to run their businesses,” Mr Dwyer said.

“Congestion on this stretch of road is not just an inconvenience it affects productivity, road safety and overall quality of life in our community.”

Mr Dwyer is encouraging as many people as possible to lodge their feedback directly through the Transport for NSW website, stressing that community data and formal submissions are key drivers of infrastructure investment decisions.

“The Minister for Regional Roads, Jenny Aitchison has assured me that the business case has been completed and will be released in due course, but we all need to keep on the case.

“Transport for NSW acts on evidence and community input. The more people who formally request improvements, the stronger the case becomes for funding and action,” Mr Dwyer said.

“This is about ensuring our region receives the infrastructure it needs to support current demand and future growth.”

The section of the Oxley Highway between Wrights Road and Lake Road is a major arterial link into the Port Macquarie CBD and surrounding residential areas. Continued population growth and increased traffic volumes have placed significant pressure on the corridor, particularly during peak travel times.

Mr Dwyer said strategic upgrades including potential intersection improvements, traffic flow enhancements and safety measures could significantly reduce delays and improve efficiency.

“I strongly encourage everyone who experiences delays or safety concerns on this stretch of road to take a few minutes to have their say. When our community speaks with one voice, it sends a powerful message,” Mr Dwyer said.

Local Businesses Encouraged to Apply for NSW EV Fast-Charging Grants Member for Port Macquarie Robert Dwyer is encouraging local businesses across the Mid North Coast to apply for NSW Government funding to install electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations, as part of ongoing efforts to expand clean transport infrastructure across the state. Under Round 4 of the NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy, funding has been allocated to help make EV ownership more convenient, accessible and reliable for motorists, particularly in regional areas. Mr Dwyer said the program has been updated to better reflect its long-term focus, including overcoming range anxiety, improving connectivity between metropolitan and regional NSW, and future-proofing the EV charging network beyond 2030. “Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular in areas like the Mid North Coast, and it’s important our infrastructure keeps pace with demand,” Mr Dwyer said. “Eligible businesses can apply for grants of up to $20 million to install fast-charging stations, which will give drivers confidence to travel between towns and regions.” Mr Dwyer said the grants also present an opportunity for local businesses to attract visitors and support the regional economy. “Fast-charging stations encourage motorists to stop, shop and spend time in our communities, delivering real benefits for local businesses and tourism,” he said. “This is a practical investment that supports local jobs, strengthens our visitor economy and helps reduce transport emissions at the same time.” “By working together with local businesses, we can ensure the Mid North Coast is well positioned to benefit from the shift to electric vehicles and remain a connected, attractive destination for residents and visitors alike,” Mr Dwyer said.
