Dwyer Calls for Urgent Rollout of Improved Bus Services in Port Macquarie

Member for Port Macquarie, Robert Dwyer is calling on the Minns Labor Government to urgently deliver improved bus services under the 16 Regional Cities Bus Service Improvement Program.

Mr Dwyer said rising fuel prices are placing significant pressure on local families, yet public transport options remain limited across many parts of the Port Macquarie community.

“Motorists are being encouraged to leave their cars at home due to the extraordinary cost of petrol, but the reality is that bus services simply do not reach all areas,” Mr Dwyer said.

“I understand that a review of bus services in Port Macquarie has already been completed, but the implementation of improvements is now waiting on funding.”

During a Budget Estimates hearing on 19 August last year, the Regional Transport Minister, Jenny Aitchison, confirmed that Transport for NSW was preparing detailed implementation and communication plans for initiatives including the Port Macquarie component of the 16 Cities program.

Mr Dwyer noted that the Government had allocated $150 million to expand bus services across Sydney and regional areas, along with an additional $26 million for new buses.

“Now more than ever, we need to see these improvements delivered particularly for the many new residential estates across Port Macquarie and the Camden Haven,” he said.

“I am calling on the Government to act immediately so residents have access to reliable public transport, comparable to what is available in metropolitan areas.”

“With U91 fuel sitting at around $2.50 per litre locally and continuing to rise due to global pressures, the community cannot afford further delays.

“The cost of living is already challenging and better access to public transport would provide much needed relief.”

Mr Dwyer also encouraged residents to use the FuelCheck app or visit the FuelCheck website to find the lowest fuel prices in their area.
