MORE SOCIAL HOUSING IN PORT MACQUARIE IS A STEP CLOSER

Early works on the construction of 94 social and affordable housing apartments are set to commence in October, Member for Port Macquarie, Robert Dwyer announced today.

“During the last sitting week of Parliament, I met with the Minister for Housing, the Hon Rose Jackson and was pleased to see this vital project is high on her agenda.

“The Port Macquarie-Hastings LGA is the second highest regional demand area for social housing in NSW,” Mr Dwyer said.

“This new development on the corner of Grant and Gordon Streets in Port Macquarie will consisting of 28 social units and 66 affordable units (available to households on very low to moderate incomes) comprising of 43 one bedroom units and 51 two bedroom units.

“There will also be a communal room for residents, basement car parking, internal lifts and landscaping across the site.

“The positive flow on effect of these new units will allow for freeing up of a number of three bedroom cottages that would be more suitable for families rather than single occupancy which is so often the case.

“Currently around 84% of the priority waitlist is for dwellings with up to two bedrooms,” Mr Dwyer said.

“The development is expected to be completed in February 2027.”
