NEW JOHNS RIVER FIRE STATION OPENS

NEW JOHNS RIVER RURAL FIRE STATION OPENS

After more than six years of planning, the new Johns River Rural Fire Station is now officially open, Member for Port Macquarie, Robert Dwyer said today.

“The station was built with funding under the Bush Fire Local Economic Recovery Fund (BLERF), Rural Fire Service as well as Mid Coast Council.

“Johns River now has a new station with modern facilities including toilets and showers, a meeting space and plenty of storage for the 20 volunteers who support the local community,” Mr Dwyer said.

“Johns River maybe a small village, but it deserves the same level of commitment when it comes to emergency services.”

Brigade Captain, Chris Bawn said, “The new station was carefully designed to RFS specification and built for ‘tomorrow’ and not today, with room for addition resources to be kept at the station.

“The station can also be used to assist in an emergency with showers and toilets available to the community during a crisis as a Resilience Hub.

Mr Bawn said he appreciates all the assistance received from the RFS, Mid Coast Council and contractors, Edge Construction during the project’s lifecycle. It has been a long wait, but it is worth it.”

Mr Bawn also thanked the local community for their patience during construction.
