CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY FOR OCEAN DRIVE MOTORISTS
Motorists are set to benefit from a major boost to local infrastructure, with the $123 million duplication of Ocean Drive now officially completed and open to traffic.
Delivered through a partnership between Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and Ditchfield Contracting, the long-awaited upgrade marks a significant milestone for the region.
Member for Port Macquarie Robert Dwyer said the project would not have begun without the commitment of the former Liberals and Nationals Coalition Government, which invested $60 million to get the upgrade underway.
“I want to acknowledge the hard work of my predecessor, Leslie Williams, whose dedication secured the funding for what is now the largest road project ever delivered in our region,” Mr Dwyer said.
“The community now has 3.4 kilometres of dual carriageway, which will substantially improve traffic flow particularly during peak travel periods.
“The final design includes three new signalised intersections, replacing roundabouts and providing safer, more efficient access to Ocean Drive at Pacific/Jonas Absalom Drive, Crestwood/Dahlsford Drive and Matthew Flinders/Emerald Drive.”
Mr Dwyer also thanked local residents for their understanding and cooperation throughout the construction period.
“I’d like to sincerely thank our community for their patience during the delivery of this vital upgrade,” he said.
