Message from the Member for Port Macquarie, Robert Dwyer

As your newly elected Member for Port Macquarie, it has been a privilege to meet so many people, local organisations, and community groups over the past nine months. Listening to your concerns, ideas, and aspirations helps guide the work I do every day on your behalf.
“Thank you for your support at the state election. I’m honoured to represent this wonderful region and am committed to delivering practical outcomes for our community,” Mr Dwyer said.
“This year brought devastating floods to the Hastings and Manning Valleys, impacting families, farms, and businesses. I remain focused on ensuring our region receives the support and recovery funding it needs, as well as advocating for mitigation measures to make our communities more resilient.
“Housing is one of the biggest challenges facing our region. New social housing is now on the way for Port Macquarie, helping provide stability and support for those who need it most. We should see a sod turned very soon,” Mr Dwyer said.
“Community safety remains a top priority. The delivery of a new $20 million Police Station in Port Macquarie will give our local officers the modern facilities they need and strengthen frontline policing across the region. Work will commence in the new year.
“Anyone who lives here knows how frustrating congestion on the Oxley Highway can be. With the wonderful support of our community, I’ve raised this issue in Parliament and will continue pushing for solutions that reduce gridlock and improve safety for residents, workers, and visitors. The Minister for Regional Roads has now confirmed the business case to upgrade the highway has now been completed and is being reviewed. I look forward to seeing it and I will share it with our community.
“The proposed Great Koala National Park has sparked strong community discussion. It offers clear benefits for koala conservation, but also raises real concerns for our local timber industry. I’m engaging with all stakeholders to ensure the final outcome is fair, balanced, and sustainable. If it is delivered properly with amendments, I believe we can have the best of both worlds,” Mr Dwyer said.
“As the weather warms, please take care when swimming. Always follow safety signs, look out for one another, and swim between the flags where possible and if you take a dip in our rivers, please do so safely and never dive into the water, you don’t know what is just under the surface.
“Holiday travel can be stressful. Please take your time on the roads, plan your trips, and arrive safely to enjoy the festive season with loved ones.
“I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. Thank you again for your warm welcome and ongoing support,” Mr Dwyer said.
