DWYER WELCOMES TOBACCO CRACKDOWN
Member for Port Macquarie, Robert Dwyer has welcomed measures to strengthen compliance and enforcement of tobacco laws in NSW.
“I am pleased the Minns Government has adopted the NSW Liberal and Nationals idea of cracking down on the illegal selling of tobacco and vapes which has been causing widespread concern throughout the community,” Mr Dwyer said.
“Under the new Legislation which the Government has adopted, all tobacco retailers and wholesalers now require a license to sell tobacco and non-tobacco smoking products in NSW.
“Retailers have until 1st October to apply for a license which is designed to strengthen the NSW Government’s ability to regulate the tobacco industry.
“New penalties also apply for the sale of illicit tobacco with a maximum penalty of over $1.5 million, seven years imprisonment or both,” Mr Dwyer said.
Questions about the scheme or assistance with the application process is available at NSW tobacco licensing scheme or on the Tobacco Information Line on 1800 357 412.
