PORT MACQUARIE BREAKWALL MUST BE UPGRADED NOW

Member for Port Macquarie, Robert Dwyer has renewed his call for urgent action on the long-awaited Southern Breakwall upgrade following the recent collapse of additional rocks near the skatepark.
Mr Dwyer said the latest damage highlights the growing safety risks and reinforces the need for immediate progress on the project.
“The upgrade is needed now more than ever. The structure continues to deteriorate, and every delay increases the risk to the public.”
“The Breakwall which was completed in 1939 has become a much loved scenic walkway attracting thousands of users each day and is in fact the second most popular walkway on the Mid North Coast.
“I am a regular user of the Breakwall and I want to see it retained as the icon it has become with all of the colourful artworks.
Mr Dwyer said he understands that Transport for NSW is currently reviewing the next steps for the upgrade, with decisions to be informed by recent technical assessments.
“These assessments are essential to ensuring that the works are properly planned, appropriately resourced, and capable of delivering long-term safety for everyone who uses the Breakwall,” Mr Dwyer said.
“I am assured the Government recognises the critical importance of the upgrade to the local community, visitors, and all who rely on the Breakwall, and will continue to provide updates as the situation progresses.
“I have written to Minister Aitchison to advise her of the latest deterioration of the Breakwall and requested that any improvement works be expedited.
Mr Dwyer stressed that public safety remains his top priority and that any identified repair or upgrade works must proceed without further delay.
“My primary concern is, and always will be, the safety of the public.”
“Whatever works are necessary—whether immediate repairs, structural upgrades, or broader safety improvements—must be treated as urgent,” Mr Dwyer said.
