TWO LAKE CATHIE WRITERS FEATURED IN NSW SENIORS' STORIES VOLUME 11

Member for Port Macquarie, Robert Dwyer has congratulated two Lake Cathie writers whose work has been selected for publication in NSW Seniors’ Stories Volume 11. They are among 100 Seniors Card holders from across the state to have their short stories included in this year’s collection.

Margaret Klower’s story, I Am Woman – Watch Me Grow, reflects on her experiences with gender stereotyping in the 1970s, while Patricia Bough contributes Reminiscing, a piece exploring her childhood in post-war Great Britain.

Mr Dwyer said this year’s volume highlights the unique perspectives of older Australians, with all stories centred around the theme ‘Then and Now’. “It’s fantastic to see two talented writers from Lake Cathie represented in this collection,” Mr Dwyer said.

“Their work joins more than 1,100 stories that have been published since the NSW Government launched the Seniors’ Stories initiative in 2013.”

The program is open to all Seniors Card and Senior Savers Card holders, and encourages contributions from authors of all cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Participants also benefit from writing workshops delivered by the Fellowship of Australian Writers NSW, offering guidance to seniors wishing to share their personal stories.

More information about the initiative is available on the NSW Seniors Card website: www.nsw.gov.au/community-services/seniors-card/seniors-stories

A digital copy of Seniors’ Stories Volume 11 is attached. Margaret’s story appears on page 172, and Patricia’s on page 174.
